Tomorrow is National Talk Like a Pirate Day. In honor of talking like a pirate we will be posting the first 6 pages of "The Golden Egg" adventure featuring Barbarian Pirate Asar (written by Richard Nelson with art by Noel Tuazon). The following 6 pages will be posted on Tuesday and the final 6 pages the next Tuesday.
Back into the archives we dip and this time we bring you one of the early character designers of Warmageddon, Jason Alexander .
Jason Alexander (now known as Jason Shawn Alexander) is a friend of Jamal. During the early years of Warmageddon, Jason was relatively local to Jamal, so Jamal contracted him to complete some character designs based on Jamal's description. At the time Jason was doing RPG drawing for White Wolf and other gaming companies, so this work fit right in.
Below are the designs for the Troll (left) and the Cyber-Troll. These characters have yet to appear in any Warmageddon stories, but the basic idea was that the Warmageddon Games were always creating new creatures to pit against the gladiators. When they found a creature that was sentient enough to do battle, they would often enhance it with cybernetics to make it stronger, faster, and more deadly.

And every good concept is made better with zombies and if you have zombies, then you have CYBER ZOMBIES. Cyber-zombies appeared in the story Ahead of the Game where Jorge Vega dubbed then GOD CADAVERS. The story behind zombies is that the Warmageddon scientists produced a serum that would heal the gladiators quicker. The side effect of the serum was that it continued to heal the body even after death. Even when brain dead, the serum continued to regenerate brain cells enough to produce a semi-sentient zombie.

Warmageddon dark elves being what they are applied the serum to the already dead an produced a rambling shattered zombie known as a mummy. The mummy drawing is one of the most intricate and interesting drawings that Jason produced for Warmageddon. Full size prints of it can be purchased at BullCityComics.com

This week on Asar Thursday we will focus on a character that hasn't been mentioned just yet. That character is Mirowyn. When first we met Mirowyn (page one of The Coming of the Wyvern below) she is sailing away from Dragon Island leaving Asar marooned on the beach.
It's not until page 4 of that same story that Mirowyn's diminutive size is noted and as an elf her small size is particularly surprising. The average female elf should stand at least as tall as Asar's shoulders while Mirowyn only stands a little taller than Asar's waist. We also learn that Mirowyn would prefer to stay away from Dragon Island.
This new adventure of Asar begin told in the graphic novel sheds more light on Mirowyn and her relationship with Asar. This is a story set before The Coming of the Wyvern and many of the events shown of The Coming of the Wyvern are foreshadowed in this graphic novel tale.
Below are layouts for pages 3-6 of the graphic novel featuring the origin tale of Mirowyn. Like all Warmageddon stories, this story is magazine sized (8.5 x11) rather than comic book sized.
That's all for now. Join us here next week. for more about the Asar Graphic Novel.

Today, I begin with an update on issue #3 scheduled for a FALL release. The line-up for issue #3 includes:
Tiegre in Forest Kirby and the Tribe of Drakul
Asar the Pirate Barbarian in The Golden Egg
Izzy and Gunnar in Slimed! and
a stand alone tale called Cease and Desist.
Cease and Desist was written by Mike Imboden and Illustrated by Ken and Buz. It 6 pages and has been complete for almost a year now. Since this issue will not be completed by Baltimore, there will be an 8 paged book for Baltimore featuring this story and a cover by Ken and Buz.
Asar the Barbarian was written by Richard Nelson and drawn by Noel Tuazon. It's 18 pages and completely finished.
Tiegre's story is currently still being inked. It has been reduced from 16 pages down to 14 pages, but all the pencilled pages are in. This story was done with the story broken down in panel, but no dialogue. Mike Imboden is now working on writing the dialogue based upon the pencilled pages and the original plot.
That brings us to ... Izzy and Gunnar. Slimed! was plotted by Mike Imboden and drawn by Hannu Lipponen. With this story Mike only supplied a page by page description of what happens and from that Hannu broke the page down into as many or as few panels as he desired. The result is a 12 paged story filled with little touches that only Hannu can bring. Check out the panel below featuring a G'd out Gunnar with Kangol, a blinged out medallion and wenches tending to I&G's every whim. We love it when Hannu's pages roll in because every page is a delight.
Currently, we have 6 inked pages for Slimed and Hannu reports that the remaining pages will be in before our update next week. Mike has all the pencilled pages and is now working on the script for slimed as well.
And that brings us to the end of the issue #3 update. Issue #3 could possibly be finished by the end of this month, but I'm looking an October release.
That then brings us to future issues.
#4 features a 36 paged Asar story and we have complete scripts for another Asar story and another a story featuring Pee Wee.
It's about time to start working on the line-up for next year. We try to put together tentative issues well in advance so that we can get covers done and give the artists and writers time to complete the stories.
Next year, you will see more from Asar and Tiegre as well as more from the mysterious THF and the Senior Council. There are 2 more stories to tell before we get more in depth into the Senior Council storyline. Those stories feature Glod the Unstoppable and Lilith.
Everyone who followed our Small Press Idol entry should be familiar with Lilith as she was one of the featured characters. She also appears on the Moon tarot card from the Warmageddon Tarot Print set. What you don't know is that she is scheduled to appear in an 8-paged story drawn by Stephen Molnar. Yes, that's the same guy who illustrated her in fine form on the Tarot card. He will not only be drawing the Lilith story, but also the 8-paged Glod the Unstoppable story!
Stephen has already turned in layouts for the first 4 pages of the Glod story and as you can tell from the pencils on the left and the panel below, you are in for a treat.
